While most brands at IFA 2026 focused on perimeter edge trimming, Sunseeker took an unexpected technical direction in Berlin by addressing another major frustration in autonomous lawn care: yard debris and discarded toys. With its flagship Sunseeker S7 LiDAR Ultra AWD 3000, the brand demonstrated the first articulating robotic manipulator arm built directly onto a production robotic mower.

Extension Hub: a robotic arm to clear the mowing path

The persistent drawback of modern autonomous mowers lies in how they react to small obstacles. Driven by AI cameras and LiDAR sensors, current generation machines can steer around a dog toy, tennis ball, or pinecone, but leave an uncut tuft of grass behind that forces the homeowner to manually clean up afterward.

To overcome this dilemma, Sunseeker developed an interchangeable mechanical interface called the Extension Hub. Mounted at the front of the chassis, this docking port accepts:

  • An EdgeZero string-trimming module designed for flush cutting along fences and borders.
  • An articulating robotic manipulator arm equipped with a motorized gripping claw.

When deployed, the arm operates in coordination with the computer vision system. As soon as a detected small object blocks the active cutting lane, the mower stops, extends its arm, grabs the object (rated for items up to 4.4 lbs / 2 kg), and deposits it to the perimeter or into a designated dump zone programmed in the app before resuming its straight mowing path.

Limitations observed during show floor demos

While the concept drew strong interest from attendees, several technical limitations were evident in Berlin:

  1. Operating speed: The arm’s kinematic movements are deliberate and slow to ensure grip precision and bystander safety, noticeably extending the time needed to mow an obstacle-heavy yard.
  2. Payload scope: The claw handles balls, fallen pinecones, and lightweight plastic toys, but cannot haul heavy storm branches or untangle garden hoses.
  3. Power draw: Driving additional servo actuators draws power from the primary traction pack, trimming overall mowing runtime per charge.

AllSense 3.0 navigation and all-wheel drive

Beyond the manipulator arm, the S7 runs on Sunseeker’s AllSense 3.0 navigation suite. It operates completely wire-free and antenna-free, relying on 3D semantic SLAM mapping produced by a 360° rotating LiDAR. Mechanically, independent all-wheel-drive motors are rated to tackle steep inclines up to 80% (approx. 39°).

Release schedule and existing options

Sunseeker plans to launch the S7 lineup in February 2027 in North America, with European availability slated for spring 2027.
