Mammotion unveiled the LUBA 3 AWD at CES 2026, and the headline is not the four-wheel drive. It is the navigation. The mower runs what Mammotion calls Tri-Fusion, a system it describes as the world’s first to combine LiDAR, RTK and AI vision in a single robot mower. For anyone who has watched a satellite-only mower stall under a tree in July, that combination is the part worth understanding before you spend.

Three sensors instead of one bet

Most wire-free mowers lean on one primary positioning method. RTK models such as the Mammotion LUBA 2 AWD read satellite signals corrected to roughly a centimetre, which is fast and accurate in the open but drops out under dense foliage or beside tall walls. LiDAR-first mowers map the space with a laser and ignore the sky entirely, but need clean sensors and defined borders.

Tri-Fusion runs all three at once: LiDAR as the primary map, AI vision for reading objects and edges, and RTK as a correction layer. Mammotion quotes a positioning precision of plus or minus one centimetre. The practical claim is redundancy. When one signal degrades, the other two carry the mower instead of parking it.

The hardware behind the claim

The LUBA 3 AWD carries a 360 degree horizontal LiDAR with 59 degrees of vertical coverage, scanning up to about 330 feet (roughly 100 metres). Object recognition runs on a dual-camera setup feeding a 10 TOPS AI chip for stereoscopic depth. RTK correction arrives through NetRTK on select models, which pulls satellite corrections over the network rather than from a base station you mount yourself. If you have ever hunted for a spot with a clear 90 degree view of the sky for an antenna, removing that step matters.

Who it is actually for

The line ships in four configurations covering roughly 0.37 to 2.5 acres, with a 15.8 inch (40 cm) cutting width and up to about 1.75 acres per day. Slopes are rated to 80 percent, or about 38.6 degrees, which is where the all-wheel drive earns its name on wet or steep turf.

Early hands-on coverage from Techaeris in July was positive on the navigation and the climbing, which tracks with what the sensor stack promises. The honest read: this is a premium, large-property machine. If your lawn is small, flat and open, a single-method RTK mower will do the same job for far less. The case for Tri-Fusion is complicated ground: heavy tree cover, tall structures that bounce satellite signals, and slopes where a stall means a rescue mission.

Bottom line for buyers

Tri-Fusion is not marketing filler. Layering LiDAR, vision and RTK is a genuine answer to the single biggest complaint about wire-free mowers, which is reliability in awkward gardens. The trade-off is cost and the usual caution on very wet or very steep grass. If you are cross-shopping, the LUBA 3 AWD sits at the top of Mammotion’s range, and the outgoing LUBA 2 AWD remains the cheaper RTK-and-vision option for simpler yards.
