Two flagship robot mowers are on sale in the US right now with the same radical idea: no RTK, no antenna, no satellites. The Roborock RockMow X120H LiDAR AWD landed on 20 July at $3,199. The ECOVACS GOAT A3000 LiDAR PRO sits at $2,499. Both map your lawn with lasers instead of reading the sky.
They arrive at that decision from opposite directions, and the manufacturer spec sheets make the difference clearer than any marketing page does.
What the two companies actually publish
Every figure below comes from the manufacturer’s own product page. Where a cell says “not published”, it means the company has not released that number, not that we could not find it.

Read that table twice, because the pattern is the story. The more expensive machine is the one telling you less.
The transparency gap is not a detail
Roborock is asking $3,199 for a mower and has not said how big the battery is, how long it runs, what it weighs, or how loud it is. On a machine in this price class those are not trivia. Runtime determines whether a half acre gets finished in one session or three. Weight determines whether it sinks into soft turf in spring.
ECOVACS publishes all four, including the unflattering one: the trimmer head hits 82 dBA, which is loud enough to matter if your neighbour’s patio is close. A company willing to print that number is a company you can trust on the others.

Where each one genuinely wins
The Roborock wins on terrain, decisively. An 80% slope rating against 50% is not a marginal advantage, it is a different category of lawn. 38.7 degrees is a bank you would hesitate to walk down; 27 degrees is a gentle hill. Add 8 cm of obstacle crossing against 4 cm, plus confirmed all-wheel drive with dynamic suspension, and the X120H handles ground the ECOVACS will refuse.
The ECOVACS wins on almost everything else. It covers 3,000 m² against 2,000, cuts a 33 cm swath against 24, runs a documented 160 minutes, and costs $700 less at list price. Its built-in trimmer spins at 8,500 rpm and mows right to the boundary, which is the one job every blade-only mower leaves you to finish by hand.
That last point is worth dwelling on. Edge finish is the most common complaint from robot mower owners, whatever the navigation technology. Roborock gets to within 3 cm of a wall. ECOVACS gets to 0 with the trimmer. Over a season, that is the difference between a lawn that looks finished and one that needs a strimmer every fortnight.
So which one
If your lawn has a real slope, a bank, or rough uneven ground, take the X120H and accept the missing spec sheet. Nothing else at this price climbs like it, and an RTK mower would have stalled under your trees anyway.
For everything else, the A3000 LiDAR PRO is more machine for less money, with numbers you can verify. Larger lawn, wider cut, documented runtime, better edges.
And if half an acre is enough, the GOAT A2000 LiDAR PRO carries the same trimmer and the same LiDAR for $1,999. It gives up runtime, at 50 minutes per charge against 160, so it suits a smaller lawn where a short session finishes the job.
